Get involved in the Reef Plan

If you are a grazier, sugarcane farmer, horticulturist, dairy farmer or other primary producer within the Reef catchment, there is plenty that you can do to maintain the health and resilience of the Great Barrier Reef. You can:

  1. Implement the best known management practices on your land. Contact your local industry group representative or DPI&F office to find out how.

  2. Find out if your local Regional NRM body can offer you assistance or incentives to help you to make the change to best management practices.

  3. Undertake water quality monitoring on your farm. Water quality monitoring can help you determine how much of the fertiliser and pesticides you apply are washing off when it rains. It can also help to determine how effective your mitigation measures are at reducing this runoff.

Contacts for industry groups, Regional NRM Bodies, government agencies, indigenous groups and others can be found at Who is involved? Contact these groups to find out how you can assist in improving the quality of water flowing to the Great Barrier Reef.
