National Landcare Program

Landcare is a volunteer community group movement aiming to improve natural resource management (NRM) in Australia.

The National Landcare Program (NLP) encourages land managers to undertake landcare and related conservation works by supporting collective action by communities to sustainably manage the environment and natural resources.

NLP has been highly effective in encouraging farmers to adopt sustainable management practices, and improve their productivity, profitability and the condition of our natural resources, both on and off farms. In Queensland the Landcare movement is strong and has contributed to many positive NRM outcomes.

NLP funding for community groups

Landcare groups will be able to apply for funds directly from their community-based regional NRM body. All applications for funding from Landcare groups must contain on-ground actions that are either:

  1. priorities of investment as outlined in the regional NRM plans and investment strategies, or
  2. where a regional NRM plan or investment strategy is yet to be prepared, are most likely to be identified as regional priorities by industry organisations or Landcare groups.

Landcare or community groups are able to apply for Envirofund grants up to $50 000. The on-ground actions covered in the application for Envirofund grants can be outside those identified in regional NRM plans or regional investment strategies.
