The Queensland Wetlands Programme is supporting the implementation of Reef Plan by developing information and resources to assist community and government in making decisions about the management of Queensland’s wetlands.
The Queensland Wetland Programme was established in 2003 by the Australian and Queensland governments following concerns about the decline of wetlands in Queensland, particularly in the Great Barrier Reef catchment.
The Programme’s focus is to provide information and systems that will enable landowners, government agencies, regional landcare bodies and other stakeholders to manage wetlands for future generations. It is:
The Programme has compiled this information into one website to further help wetland managers. WetlandInfo is a first-stop shop for wetland management information in Queensland.
The five-year Programme is funded through the Great Barrier Reef Coastal Wetlands Protection Programme and the Natural Heritage Trust Wetlands Programme.
The Australian Government’s Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts Resources and Queensland’s Environmental Protection Agency lead the Programme with the support of a number of other government departments and stakeholders.
