Education and research institutes

Many educational and research institutions are helping directly and indirectly to implement Reef Plan. They:

Help coordinate research and develop programs that will assist in delivering Reef Plan objectives.
Provide technical information and methods from research and monitoring on water quality entering the Great Barrier Reef lagoon to regional Natural Resource Management bodies, land managers, industry peak bodies and the public.

Research organisations participating in Reef Plan include:

Australian Institute of Marine Science
Consortium of Integrated Resource Management (CIRM) - Reef Catchments (non-government site)
Marine and Tropical Science Research Facility (MTSRF) (non-government site)
Water for a Healthy Country - Great Barrier Reef Catchments (CSIRO)
Catchment to Reef (C2R) (non-government site)

To make the Reef Plan a success there needs to be ongoing access to the best available scientific data and emerging research. To assist in making this information available, the Reef Plan provides a framework for pooling, interpreting and expressing the current scientific information.

Research conducted by Education and Research institutions will be used by policy makers and stakeholders.
