The Australian National Audit Office conducted a performance audit in 2016–2017 to assess the effectiveness of the design and implementation of the Reef Trust.
The Queensland Audit Office conducted an audit in 2014–2015 to determine whether the adverse impact of broad scale land use on the quality of water entering the Great Barrier Reef was declining.
A follow-up performance audit in 2017–2018 assessed whether the government had effectively implemented the recommendations.
An Independent Audit of the Reef Water Quality Protection Plan 2009 was undertaken in late 2010 and early 2011. The audit found that progress was positive overall and the partners involved in the program felt positive, engaged and committed.
An independent audit (Report to the Prime Minister and the Premier of Queensland ) was also undertaken in 2005.
